#14 Lady Buffs Sweep Past UT Permian Basin on Friday Night

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M ran their win streak to 11 matches on Friday night as the #14 Lady Buffs swept past the Falcons of UT Permian Basin (25-20, 25-17, 25-15) at the Falcon Dome in Lone Star Conference action.
 
West Texas A&M began the first set by capitalizing on an early attack error by the Falcons to take the initial point. Despite a service ace by UT Permian Basin leveling the score, the Lady Buffs quickly reasserted control. Kaycee Cavanaugh and Taytum Stow led a dynamic offense, each contributing critical kills, while Bromli Watson consistently set up scoring opportunities, pushing the visiting team ahead.
 
A mid-set sequence saw the Lady Buffs extend their lead to 16-11, highlighted by a service ace from Cavanaugh and kills by Currie Marusak. Defensive efforts were marked by a block from Parker Gladhill and Marusak, maintaining their momentum. The Falcons attempted a late rally, but a decisive kill by Stow sealed the set for West Texas A&M at 25-20.
 
WT opened the second set with a strong defensive effort, capitalizing on errors by the Falcons to take an early lead. A service ace by Hannah Pemberton and consistent play from Marusak, who recorded multiple kills, helped maintain momentum. The visiting team extended their advantage to 10-8 with a series of successful attacks, including a significant block by Gladhill and Watson.
 
Continuing their offensive pressure, the Lady Buffs surged ahead with a series of points that included a service ace from Stow and further contributions from Marusak. Despite a few exchanges with UT Permian Basin, West Texas A&M maintained control, closing the set with decisive blocks and a kill by Emma Becker, sealing the set at 25-17.
 
The Lady Buffs started the third set strongly, with Becker recording consecutive kills to establish an early lead. Stow and Cavanaugh extended the advantage with key kills, supported by consistent assists from Watson. As the set progressed, West Texas A&M capitalized on the Falcons' errors, including attack errors from Bentleigh Bundy and Nickilah Whatley, to widen the gap. Cavanaugh and Stow continued to deliver offensively, helping the team maintain momentum.
 
The Lady Buffs closed the set with a decisive 25-15 win, highlighted by a series of blocks from Gladhill and Becker. The visitors finished strong with Cavanaugh's final kill, securing the set.
 
Marusak led the team with 14 kills and added 12 digs, contributing 17.0 points overall. Stow posted an exceptional hitting percentage of .647 with 11 kills on 17 attempts while also serving two aces. Gladhill was solid at the net, amassing seven block assists. Watson facilitated the offense with 34 assists, playing a crucial role in setting up attacks.
 
Lauren Demuth led UT Permian Basin with a total of 7.5 points, registering six kills on 20 attacks and adding two assists across three games. Ashlee Macias contributed significantly on defense with nine digs while also tallying eight kills, resulting in 8.0 points. Kierra Freeman excelled in setting, recording 20 assists, and she contributed defensively with eight digs.
 
The Lady Buffs close out their weekend LSC road trip on Saturday afternoon as they travel to San Angelo, Texas to take on the rival Belles of Angelo State with first serve set for 2:00 p.m. at the Junell Center.
