CANYON, Texas – The #14 Lady Buffs of started off Homecoming weekend with a Lone Star Conference sweep of the DBU Patriots (25-22, 25-19, 25-19) on Friday night at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.

West Texas A&M opened the first set with a sharp offensive display, keeping the score close through the early exchanges. The team's consistent pressure was highlighted by kills from
Emma Becker and
Taytum Stow, along with crucial blocks by Stow and
Currie Marusak, which helped maintain momentum. As the set progressed, the Lady Buffs gained a slight edge, capitalizing on several DBU errors, including service and attack mistakes. Marusak and
Bromli Watson contributed with key kills, extending the lead to solidify control. The set concluded with West Texas A&M securing a 25-22 victory, as
Kaycee Cavanaugh delivered decisive points, ensuring the team closed the set with a steady lead.

The second set opened with DBU taking an early lead, capitalizing on a few errors to go up 5-2. However, the Lady Buffs quickly regained footing with Cavanaugh's strong offensive plays, including several key kills that narrowed the score to 7-7. A critical run, highlighted by blocks from Stow and Watson, shifted momentum in favor of WT, leading to a tied score at 14-14. The Lady Buffs then surged ahead, fueled by Marusak's consistent scoring, pushing the team from a 15-15 tie to a decisive 20-15 advantage. Despite DBU's attempt to close the gap, WT maintained control and extended their lead. The set concluded with a kill from Cavanaugh, sealing a 25-19 victory for the Lady Buffs.

In the third set, the Lady Buffs initiated with a pivotal momentum shift, fueled by a series of plays from Cavanaugh and Stow. Cavanaugh's effective attacks and Stow's contributions extended the lead to 6-2, creating a foundation for control. Watson's service ace further solidified the momentum at 6-2, and the team maintained a steady advantage despite DBU's attempts to counter. A critical juncture came as DBU rallied to tie the score at 12-12, driven by Karly Wells' efforts. However, WT regained the upper hand with
Parker Gladhill's block and another decisive kill by Cavanaugh, moving ahead 14-13. The team capitalized on DBU's errors to widen the gap once more. As the set concluded, the Lady Buffs executed a decisive 5-0 run to close out the set, with Marusak and Gladhill contributing key points. The home team secured the set with a 25-19 finish, reinforcing their competitive edge.

Marusak led WT with 15 kills and contributed 10 digs, amassing a team-high 16 points. Cavanaugh closely followed, tallying 14 kills and adding a service ace to finish with 15.5 points. Stow was a force at the net, recording eight total blocks and hitting .571 with eight kills on 14 attempts.
Hannah Pemberton anchored the defense with 19 digs, while Watson facilitated the offense, distributing 27 assists across the three sets.

Karly Wells stands out on the DBU team, leading with 19 kills on 61 attempts and tallying 20.5 points. Sydney Payne has been effective in setting with nine assists, contributing to the team's offensive setup. Paityn Winters also played a crucial role in setting, recording 15 assists and adding nine digs to the defensive effort. Aizlyn Dewberry provided a strong presence at the net with four block assists, showcasing her defensive skills.
