CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes look to get back to their winning ways on Wednesday afternoon as they make the long Lone Star Conference road trip to Alpine, Texas to take on the Lobos of Sul Ross State starting at 2:00 p.m.

MIDWESTERN STATE REWIND
Sunday afternoon saw the Buffs drop their fourth straight contest as the #12 Mustangs of Midwestern State registered 15 shots with three of them coming on goal in a 2-0 shutout victory at Stang Park in Wichita Falls.

A LOOK AT THE LOBOS
Sul Ross State enters the week with an overall record of 5-4-5 with a 2-2-3 mark in league action. The Lobos are 1-2-2 in their last five contests as they fell to UT Dallas, 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in Alpine on Senior Day.Â

Jose Ramos leads the way offensively for the Lobos as the junior forward from Katy, Texas has scored a team-best three goals with an assist for seven points. Diego Hernandez has registered a team-leading nine total points with five assists and a pair of goals.

SRSU HEAD COACH BAILEY GUFFIN
Bailey Guffin in in his third season at the helm of the Sul Ross State men's soccer program. 2024 saw the Lobos go 6-9-2 overall during their first season in NCAA Division II. Guffin came to Alpine following a stint as the head coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State in Goodwell.Â

Wednesday afternoon is just the second all-time meeting on the pitch between the Buffs and Lobos. Last year's meeting saw Sul Ross State score a pair of second half goals on their way to a 2-0 shutout victory over West Texas A&M in Canyon.

WT HEAD COACH BUTCH LAUFFER
Butch Lauffer is now in his 35th season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M. Lauffer is the longest tenured head coach in WT history in a storied career dating back to 1991. Lauffer reached the 500-win plateau on Sept. 30, 2017 with a dominating 13-2 win over UT Permian Basin.Â

During his tenure, Lauffer coached the men to 31 consecutive non-losing seasons from 1993 to 2023 and the women to 12-plus victories in 12 seasons. Lauffer has recorded a 387-184-60 (.665) record at the helm of the Buffs with a 577-251-76 (.683) overall record at WT.

LSC PRESEASON POLL
West Texas A&M was picked fifth in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Midwestern State claimed 16 of the possible 33 first place votes for 338 points to sit atop of the poll followed by St. Mary's (13 first place, 331), St. Edward's (three first place, 297), DBU (241), West Texas A&M (239), Lubbock Christian (169), UT Tyler (161), Oklahoma Christian (134), UT Dallas (104), Texas A&M International (one first place, 86) and Sul Ross State (78).

Arthur Souza of St. Edward's was tabbed the league's Preseason Player of the Year while Luke Mulkey and Johnny Thurbin from St. Mary's claimed Defensive and Goalkeeper Preseason Honors.
