#13 Lady Buffs Remain Unbeaten at The Box with a Sweep of UT Dallas

CANYON, Texas – The #13 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M claimed their ninth straight win while remaining unbeaten at the WTAMU Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon as they swept past UT Dallas Comets (25-18, 25-17, 25-15) in Lone Star Conference action.
 
WT initiated the match with a strong start, as Kaycee Cavanaugh delivered an early kill from Bromli Watson's assist, marking the opening point. A series of exchanges followed, but the Lady Buffs maintained a slight advantage with Cavanaugh's impactful presence at the net, including a block and multiple kills. Taytum Stow also contributed with precision, adding crucial points to the scoreboard.
 
As the set progressed, WT extended their lead through a combination of opponent errors and strategic plays, including a service ace by Currie Marusak. The team capitalized on UTD's mistakes, building momentum with successful blocks by Emma Becker and Stow. The period concluded with a decisive service ace from Stow, securing a 25-18 set victory for the Lady Buffs.
 
WT capitalized on a series of errors by the Comets to gain momentum early in the second set. Cavanaugh and Marusak both delivered key kills, helping to turn the tide after an initial visitor lead. A notable defensive block by Marusak and Parker Gladhill further shifted the momentum in favor of the Lady Buffs.
 
The home team extended their lead significantly through consecutive scoring plays, including kills from Becker and Watson. Marusak contributed multiple points, including a decisive kill that brought the Lady Buffs within closing distance of the set. Despite a brief pushback from UTD, the Lady Buffs closed the set with a 25-17 advantage, solidifying their control in the match.
 
West Texas A&M began the third set with a kill by Gladhill, setting the tone for a strong performance. After trading early points, a decisive series of plays, including a kill from Marusak and an ace by Cavanaugh, propelled the team into a commanding lead. With a series of missteps from Texas-Dallas, including multiple attack errors, the Lady Buffs extended their advantage. Additional contributions from Stow and Camryn Heiser maintained momentum, allowing the team to sustain their lead. As the set drew to a close, kills from Mary Grace King and Casey Loewer helped secure the victory, with the Lady Buffs finishing the set 25-15.
 
Marusak led the way with 11 kills on 17 attempts, achieving a hitting percentage of .529, and added seven digs. Cavanaugh contributed eight kills and recorded nine digs, while also tallying a service ace. Watson facilitated the offense with 19 assists and added five digs. Heiser entered the match with a perfect attack percentage, converting her sole attempt for a kill.
 
Laura See made a notable contribution with four kills on nine attempts, achieving a .333 hitting percentage and contributing four block assists in three sets. Abby Gentner provided stability in setting with 17 assists and added three kills over her three appearances. Jane Burkhardt maintained a .200 hitting percentage while also providing three digs.
 
The Lady Buffs host the league-leading Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps on Tuesday night with first serve set for 6:00 p.m. in Canyon.
