CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M's
Lawrencia Yeboah registered a hat trick on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Buffs claimed a 3-0 shutout win over the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico in LSC action at Steve Loy Family Foundation Field in Portales.
WT began the first half with strong offensive momentum, taking multiple corner kicks early on.
Alicia Cohen and
Sydney Martin each tested the Eastern New Mexico goalkeeper, Rosie Willmott Joyce, with shots on target. Despite numerous attempts, including a strike from
Lauren Stokes that hit the woodwork, the Lady Buffs were unable to break through.
Defensively, the Lady Buffs held Eastern New Mexico to limited opportunities, with
Franciezca Blancaflor guarding the net effectively. The half concluded with the score tied at 0-0, as the Lady Buffs continued to press for an opening goal while maintaining a solid defensive line.
The second half began with a momentum shift as
Lawrencia Yeboah broke the deadlock for the Lady Buffs in the 58th minute, courtesy of an assist from
Reese Frericks. Yeboah struck again in the 68th minute, this time assisted by Cohen, doubling the visitor's advantage.
The Lady Buffs maintained pressure, with Yeboah completing her hat trick in the 76th minute, aided by
Michelle Velasco. The visiting team closed the half with a commanding 3-0 lead over Eastern New Mexico, controlling the game until the final whistle.
Yeboah led the team with a hat trick, scoring three goals, including the game-winning goal, from six shots. Cohen contributed with an assist and registered three shots, two of which were on goal. Velasco also added an assist and took one shot. Blancaflor played the full match in goal, facing two shots and maintaining a clean sheet.
Willmott Joyce stood out for Eastern New Mexico with six saves, facing 22 shots in her 90 minutes as goalkeeper. Kaylee Baker and Laci Lozoya each contributed with a shot attempt, though neither was on target. Despite the offensive efforts, the team could not convert those opportunities into goals.
The Lady Buffs hit the road for LSC action on Wednesday night as they travel to Laredo, Texas to battle Texas A&M International with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m.
