Lady Buffs Leave South Texas with a 2-1 LSC Victory

CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M picked up their second straight Lone Star Conference victory on Wednesday night as they registered a 2-1 win over the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International in Laredo, Texas.
 
The first period began with WT asserting early momentum. Sarah Hernandez Lopez capitalized on a corner kick from Michelle Velasco, scoring in the fifth minute to give the visiting team an early lead. Despite multiple attempts from Texas A&M International, including four shots off target, the Lady Buffs maintained a solid defensive stance.
 
West Texas A&M continued to control the pace, with Alicia Cohen nearly doubling the lead, but her shot was saved by the home goalie. The visiting team held onto their 1-0 advantage as the period concluded, setting a strong foundation for the remainder of the match.
 
The second period commenced with the Lady Buffs quickly extending their lead as Lawrencia Yeboah scored in the 52nd minute, bringing the score to 2-0. The visitors maintained their advantage, despite Texas A&M International's attempts to close the gap, including a notable save by Franciezca Blancaflor in the 68th minute.
 
Texas A&M International managed to reduce the deficit in the 79th minute with a goal by Caroline Jensen. Blancaflor continued to be pivotal in goal, making crucial saves to keep the visitors ahead. The period concluded with the Lady Buffs holding a 2-1 lead.
 
Franciezca Blancaflor recorded four saves in goal, contributing to the team's victory. Yeboah scored the game-winning goal, finding the back of the net with her only shot on target. Velasco added an assist, providing the setup for one of the team's goals. Hernandez Lopez scored once, converting her sole shot into a goal.
 
Caroline Jensen scored the lone goal for the Dustdevils while taking two shots, both on target. Adamaris Manjarrez contributed an assist and had one shot on goal. Latae Rodriguez, in goal, made one save while facing four shots, conceding two goals over 90 minutes.
 
The Lady Buffs return to The Pitch in Canyon on Saturday afternoon as they host the Comets of UT Dallas in LSC action starting at 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day.
