Buffs Drop a 4-1 Lone Star Conference Matchup with Dallas Baptist

CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M dropped a Lone Star Conference matchup with the Dallas Baptist Patriots, 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at The Pitch in Canyon, Texas.
 
Dallas Baptist opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a goal from Caleb Centeno. Shortly after, Erik Oliveira extended their lead in the 31st minute. WT responded in the 40th minute when Felix Casas found the net, assisted by Ziv Shlimak, reducing the deficit to 2-1. The period concluded with Dallas Baptist leading by one goal.
 
Erik Oliveira scored twice for DBU, securing a decisive lead over the Buffs in the second half. Oliveira's first goal came at the 53rd-minute mark, followed by another in the 57th minute, assisted by Zachary Trimming, bringing the score to 4-1. The Buffs struggled to convert their opportunities, with Venancio Calderon and D'Jonte Davis each taking shots that were either saved or went off target. Despite multiple attempts and a corner kick, the Buffs could not narrow the gap, and the period ended with no additional goals from the home side.
 
Felix Casas scored a goal and finished with one shot on target. Ziv Shlimak contributed with an assist, marking his presence in the match. Bryce Cottle, in goal, made three saves out of 13 shots faced during his 90 minutes on the field. D'Jonte Davis was active offensively, recording three shots with two of them on goal.
 
Erik Oliveira led DBU with a hat trick, scoring three goals on five shots, four of which were on goal, including one game-winning goal. Zachary Trimming contributed an assist and had one shot on goal. Caleb Centeno added to the scoring with one goal from three shots. Goalkeeper Sean Mattivi played a full match, making three saves on nine shots faced, allowing only one goal.
 
The Buffs return to The Pitch on Wednesday night as they welcome the Chaps of Lubbock Christian with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. on Senior Night.
