Lady Buffs Battle to a Tie with UTPB, Cohen Scores Twice

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M sophomore Alicia Cohen scored a pair of goals on Wednesday night including her second in the 58th minute to tie the game as the Lady Buffs battled back for a 2-2 Lone Star Conference tie with the Falcons of UT Permian Basin.
 
The first half began with WT applying early pressure, marked by a shot from Jezmin Castellanos Reyes that was saved in the sixth minute. The home team continued to press, and Cohen capitalized on a corner, scoring in the 31st minute to give the Lady Buffs a 1-0 lead.
 
However, UT Permian Basin quickly responded, leveling the score with a goal by Sarah Williams in the 41st minute, assisted by Natalia Salas. Moments later, Allyson Reed put the visitors ahead with a second goal in the 43rd minute. The half concluded with UT Permian Basin leading 2-1, as WT looked to regroup for the second half.
 
The second half began with the Lady Buffs seizing momentum early as Cohen netted a goal in the 58th minute, leveling the score at 2-2. Reese Frericks had an opportunity shortly after, but her shot was saved by the UT Permian Basin goalkeeper.
 
The Lady Buffs continued to press forward, creating several chances, including a shot from Adjeley Kpobi that narrowly missed. The half concluded with both teams locked in a 2-2 draw, maintaining the suspense until the final whistle.
 
Cohen scored two goals and attempted five shots, with all her shots on target. Franciezca Blancaflor played the full 90 minutes in goal, recording two saves from five shots faced. Frericks provided an offensive effort with one shot on goal.
 
Reed led the visiting team with a goal, taking three shots with two on target. Williams contributed significantly with one goal, scoring on her only shot of the match. Salas provided an assist, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. In goal, Valeria Delgado made three saves while facing 11 shots, maintaining a solid presence in the net.
 
The Lady Buffs hit the road for Lone Star Conference action on Saturday afternoon as they head to Portales, New Mexico to take on the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. at Al Whitehead Field at Greyhound Stadium.
