CANYON, Texas – The #10 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M started off Lone Star Conference play in style on Thursday night as they swept past Western New Mexico on the road (25-19, 25-20, 25-16) at Drag's Court in Silver City, New Mexico.
The Lady Buffs finished the night with 48 kills on 97 swings with 12 errors for an attack percentage of .371 to go along with 41 assists, six aces, 43 digs and five blocks. Western New Mexico registered 35 kills on 99 attempts with 14 errors to hit .212 on the night with 27 assists, two aces, 30 digs and four blocks.
Camy Jones led the way for the Lady Buffs as the senior from Portland, Texas had 12 kills on 19 swings with no attack errors to register an attack percentage of .632 to go along with three digs.
Currie Marusak and
Emma Becker had eight kills each for the Lady Buffs while
Ainsley Malis paced the offense with 17 assists, senior
Bryli Contreras led the way defensively with 12 digs in the back row.
Jazmyne Walker and Eimaya Medina finished the night with eight kills each for the Mustangs while Medina also dished out a match-high 27 assists. Lilouann Bechec had a team-high 12 digs followed by Logan Dodge with eight.
MATCH NOTES
- Thursday's match was the 23rd all-time meeting between the Lady Buffs and Mustangs, WT is 20-3 in the series that dates back to 1981 and the Lady Buffs have won the last nine meetings
- With the win, the Lady Buffs have now won 1,200 matches since the beginning of the modern statistical era which began in 1980, WT is 1,200-435-3 during that time for an incredible winning percentage of .733
