CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs trailed by 10 entering the locker room and couldn't get a string of defensive stops in the second half on Thursday night at one of the toughest home courts in Division II women's basketball in a 75-68 loss to the Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian during Lone Star Conference action at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Nyalam Thabach led the way offensively for the Lady Buffs as the senior from Boise, Idaho went 5-of-11 from the floor including 1-of-2 from deep and 4-of-4 from the free throw line for a team-high 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and a block.
Karley Motschenbacher chipped in 12 points with seven boards followed by
Grace Alvarez and Kyle Kane with 11 points each.
The Lady Buffs finished the game going 23-of-53 (43.4%) from the field including 6-of-13 (46.2%) from deep and 16-of-18 (88.9%) from the free throw line with 31 rebounds (six offensive, 25 defensive), nine assists, 11 turnovers, four blocks and seven steals.
LCU was paced by Audrey Robertson as the Kerrville, Texas product went 10-of-17 from the field including 3-of-6 from deep and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe for a game-high 25 points to go along with six boards, one assist and two steals. The Lady Chaps finished the night going 25-of-61 (41%) from the floor including 4-of-18 (22.2%) from long range and 21-of-24 (87.5%) from the line with 39 rebounds, nine assists, 11 turnovers, two blocks and six steals.
The Lady Buffs close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon as the welcome the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps to the First United Bank Center for Lone Star Conference action, tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day in Canyon.
