Toussaint and Wise Lead Buffs Past Aggies

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M seniors Zach Toussaint and Larry Wise scored a combined 49 points to power the Buffs past the Cameron Aggies, 90-78. The Buffs extend their win streak to 16 games with an overall record of 19-1 and 13-0 in Lone Star Conference play.

The Leaders
Wise poured in a game-high 29 points with a team-leading eight rebounds while Toussaint followed with 20 points. Kieran Elliott also finished his night in double figures with 12 points and two rebounds. Isaac Ayoubi dished out a team-high six assists while Ryland Holt blocked a pair of shots.

How It Happened
The Aggies started fast, jumping out to a 9-2 lead, and catching the Buffs off guard. WT quickly answered back by chipping away at the lead before tying the game at nine. Despite the Buffs tying the game, Cameron remained in control of the momentum. It wasn't until the 12:17 mark where WT gained its first lead of the night. As the Aggies went cold from the field, the Buffs slowly built on their lead, extending it to double digits at the 4:39 mark. Over the last minutes of the first half, the lead hovered around 10 until Wise knocked down a three to beat the halftime buzzer and send the teams to the locker room with a 44-31 score line in favor of WT.

The second half saw the Aggies start in the same fashion as the first, opening the period on a 12-4 run to bring the game within five. The Buffs slowly built the lead back up where Toussaint capped the streak with a three to move the advantage back to double digits. Cameron went back to work to bring the game back within striking distance but watched each attempt answered by WT. With 1:55 to play, a Wise free throw pushed the lead to a game-high 14 points. The Buffs eventually drained the clock and sealed the win with yet another Wise three pointer in the closing seconds.
