AUSTIN – West Texas A&M women's soccer dropped its final road match of the regular season at St. Edward's, 3-1. With the loss, the Lady Buffs drop to 6-9-2 overall and 3-7-2 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Lady Buffs recorded the game's first shot two and a half minutes in when
Madison Stokes put a shot on frame. After WT looked to take an early lead, St. Edward's took the lead in the seventh minute as Marie Hannedouche connected with Tristyn Cabello for the Hilltoppers first goal. The Lady Buffs attempted to match the goal a minute later, but a save from Daria Schlumbohm kept the scoreline stable. St. Edward's added to its lead in the 16
th minute as Cabello assisted on Carina Wust's goal. Despite early scoring chances, the Lady Buffs couldn't find the scoreboard in the first half as the Hilltoppers controlled the pace of play.
In the second half, WT created the half's first scoring chance as
Sydney Martin placed a shot on goal two minutes in. The Lady Buffs continued to pressure St. Edward's, recording three shots and two corners over a four-minute span. The Hilltoppers added to their lead in the 67
th minute Hannedouche played a ball forward for Abigail Hall. As Hall approached the ball,
Reagan Heelan ran off her line, but a touch from Hall sent the ball into the back of the net. WT broke up the shutout in the 75
th minute as St. Edward's foul near midfield gave the Lady Buffs a free kick. On the restart,
Alexsis Villarreal placed a ball back post where
Avery Putnam raced to tap the ball in the goal.
WT celebrates Senior Day on Thursday, Nov. 7 against Midwestern State. Kickoff for the regular season finale starts at 7 p.m.
