CANYON. Texas – The #5 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M dropped their first match in 64 days on Saturday night as they fell to the #10 Angelo State Rambelles (27-25, 25-27, 19-25, 22-25) in the finals of the 2024 Lone Star Conference Championship at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
Emma Becker was dominant again for the Lady Buff as the junior had a match-high 21 kills on 50 swings with six errors to hit .300 on the night to go along with 11 digs and three blocks for a double-double.
Currie Marusak chipped in 12 kills while
Ainsley Malis dished out 41 assists to go along with 14 digs,
Bryli Contreras was all over the court as the Canyon product had 30 digs and five assists in the loss. Becker, Malis and Contreras were named to the LSC All-Tournament Team.
The Lady Buffs finished the night with 63 kills on 182 attempts with 31 attack errors to hit .176 as a team with 58 assists, five aces, 95 digs and seven blocks. Angelo State registered 63 kills on 192 attempts with 20 errors for an attack percentage of .224 with 57 assists, three aces, 81 digs and 14 blocks.
Tournament MVP Madi Parrish had 18 kills on 51 swings with five errors to hit .255 for the Belles with eight digs and three blocks while Evelyn Torres (16) and Demi Carter (14) finished with double-digit kills. Adeline Ortman dished out a match-high 51 assists with 19 digs for a double-double while Caleigh Enax had 25 digs in the back row.
