CANYON. Texas – West Texas A&M senior setter
Ainsley Malis surpassed the 3,000 career assists plateau on Thursday night as the #5 Lady Buffs rolled past the eighth-seeded Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian (25-17, 25-22, 25-17) during the quarterfinal round of the Lone Star Conference Championship at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
Kaycee Cavanaugh led the way offensively for the Lady Buffs as the freshman had 12 kills on 28 swings with just one error to hit .393 on the night with eight digs, one assist and a block.
Emma Becker chipped in 10 kills for the Lady Buffs followed by
Taytum Stow,
Currie Marusak and
Angelina Oliver with seven each, Malis dished out 17 assists to go along with five digs and two aces while
Hannah Pemberton impressed with 23 assists,
Bryli Contreras (23) and
Getsemani Carrasco (10) both finished the double-figure digs.
The Lady Buffs registered 48 kills on 124 swings with 14 attack errors to hit ,274 as a team with 46 assists, five aces, 55 digs and six total blocks. Lubbock Christian finished the night with 29 kills on 120 attempts with 16 errors for an attack percentage of .108 with 26 assists, one ace, 50 digs and five blocks in the loss.
Kiana Fallaha led the way for the Lady Chaps as she finished with 11 kills on 35 swings with five errors to hit .171 on the night with two digs and a block, Payton Murray chipped in nine kills and three digs while Kayton Genebacher dished out 22 assists with Leddy Rae Guinn leading the way in the back row with 14 digs.
