Lady Buffs Fall to Texas Woman's

DENTON, Texas – After a lengthy delay to the start of the game, West Texas A&M women's soccer couldn't overcome a pair of first-half goals from the Texas Woman's Pioneers as the Lady Buffs fell 3-1 on Friday night. The Lady Buffs fall to 6-8-2 overall and 3-6-2 in Lone Star Conference play.

WT immediately applied pressure to the Texas Woman's back line, recording a shot and a pair of corners less than 90 seconds into the game. After the Lady Buffs attack, the Pioneers formulated an attack of their own over the next five minutes. In the eighth minute, Halee Avery opened the scoring off a pass from Celeste Beltran. Although Texas Woman's controlled the momentum, WT was able to string together passes and create scoring opportunities for itself. With 70 seconds to play in the half, Beltran doubled the Pioneers lead when the midfielder ripped a shot from outside the box for a goal.

Early in the second half, Alexsis Villarreal tested Texas Woman's goalkeeper Amanda Farris, but Farris came up with a save on the shot. The shot proved to be the only shot of the second half until Villarreal unleashed a shot from 25 yards out, beating Farris. The goal cut down the Pioneers lead, leaving the door open for a WT comeback. Following the goal, Texas Woman's shut down the Lady Buffs' offense. The Pioneers restored their two goal advantage in the 78th minute when Erica Brelove found Abby Powers for a goal. WT wouldn't go away quietly as the Lady Buffs looked to scratch their way back into the game. Before WT could mount a two-goal comeback, Texas Woman's ran out the clock for a home victory.

The Lady Buffs return to action on Monday, Nov. 4 against St. Edward's. First kick is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Lewis-Chen Family Field in Austin.
