Cavanaugh’s Big Night Sends the #9 Lady Buffs Home with a Win

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M freshman Kaycee Cavanaugh put on a show on Wednesday night with 15 kills as the #9 Lady Buffs ran their win streak to six matches with a four-set victory over the Oklahoma Christian Eagles (25-20, 14-25, 25-12, 25-16) at Payne Athletic Center in Edmond, Oklahoma.
 
The Lady Buffs finished the night with 61 kills on 145 attempts with 14 attack errors to hit .324 as a team with 58 assists, four aces, 71 digs and eight blocks. Oklahoma Christian finished the night with 50 kills on 157 swings with 18 attack errors to hit .204 in the match with 46 assists, two aces, 61 digs and four blocks.
 
Cavanaugh finished the night with 15 kills on 30 swings with just three errors for an attack percentage of .400 to go along with 14 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Currie Marusak registered 14 kills with an attack percentage of .353 while Ainsley Malis paced the WT offense with 26 assists followed by Hannah Pemberton with 23, Taytum Stow had seven kills and five blocks for the Lady Buffs while Bryli Contreras led the way in the back row with 21 digs.
 
Chloe Jones led the way offensively for the Eagles as the freshman had 12 kills on 35 swings with just three errors for an attack percentage of .257 to go along with 14 digs for a double-double. Riley Daugherty and Avery Cole finished in double-figures with 10 kills while Lauren McClure dished out a team-high 20 assists with Sara Freeman leading the way in the back row with 17 digs.

  • Wednesday night was the fifth all-time meeting between the Lady Buffs and Oklahoma Christian, WT is 5-0 in the series that dates back to 2021. The Lady Buffs are 2-0 at the Payne Athletic Center in Edmond
