Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lady Buffs, Rambelles End Scoreless

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M women's soccer held off a furious Angelo State Rambelle attack in the final five minutes to end in a scoreless draw. The Lady Buffs move to 6-7-2 overall on the season and 3-5-2 in Lone Star Conference play while the Rambelles move to 9-1-5 overall and 7-0-3 in league play.

Off the opening kickoff, the two teams went to work trying to control possession and swing the momentum early. WT looked to take an early lead in the 11th minute as a free kick went inside the box for Adjeley Kpobi. Kpobi timed her jump over the Angelo State defense to send a shot high, but the attempt started in an offside position to give the Rambelles control. Angelo State recorded the game's first official shot 15 minutes in, but the attempt didn't test Reagan Heelan in goal. The Rambelles found space behind the Lady Buffs' back line in the 24th minute when Sanai Stewart made a run. As Stewart approached the box, Heelan charged off her line. Stewart tried to slip a shot past Heelan, but the try went wide of the open goal. It wasn't until the 27th minute where the Lady Buffs registered their first shot only for it to go wide as well. After the scoring chance for WT, Angelo State started to control possession and the momentum as the Rambelles stifled the Lady Buff attack. Despite a 5-1 difference in shots, WT held Angelo State off the scoreboard in the first half.

Shortly after the second half started, Heelan recorded the match's first save when Abby James sent a shot into the hands of the senior netminder. The Lady Buffs looked to counter a few minutes later as a ball through the defense played Avery Putnam onside. Putnam attacked the box but slowed the pace before sending a shot wide of the back post. As the game reached the midway point of the second half, the Rambelles started to notch up the intensity. In the 69th minute, a WT foul set up an Angelo State free kick just outside the box. Katelin Heise stepped up to take the kick where she sent a rocket toward Heelan, but a leaping save kept the game tied. With less than five minutes to play, Heelan came up big once again as the senior converted a pair of saves in 10 seconds, preserving the scoreline to earn a conference point.

WT starts its final road stretch of the season on Friday, Nov. 1 when the Lady Buffs take on Texas Woman's at 3 p.m. in Denton.
