CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M chipped away at a 21-point deficit to tie the game with under two minutes remaining before late free throws clinched a Lone Star Conference victory for Eastern New Mexico, 71-70 at Greyhound Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Karley Motschenbacher reached the 1,000 career point plateau as the junior from Moorhead, Minnesota went 11-of-13 from the floor including 1-of-2 from deep and 2-of-4 from the charity stripe for a game-high 25 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists, one block and two steals. Hollie Staler (15) and
Jayla Burgess (10) also finished the game in double-figures.
The Lady Buffs finished the afternoon going 30-of-54 (55.6%) from the field including 4-of-11 (36.4%) from behind the arc and 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the free throw line to go along with 25 rebounds (six offensive, 19 defensive), 14 assists, 17 turnovers, four blocks and seven steals.
The Greyhounds were led by Ishuana Hunter as the junior from Trenton, New Jersey went 10-of-20 from the floor including 4-of-5 at the line for a team-high 24 points to go along with six boards. ENMU finished the game going 29-of-57 (50.9%) from the field including 4-of-10 (40%) from deep and 9-of-11 (81.8%) from the line to go along with 28 rebounds, 15 assists, 14 turnovers, two blocks and 11 steals.
The Lady Buffs return to the friendly confines of the First United Bank Center on Thursday night to start a four-game Lone Star Conference homestand against the Pioneers of Texas Woman's with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. in Canyon.
