CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs opened the game shooting 46.7% in the first quarter to hold a nine-point lead before going cold from the floor to drop consecutive Lone Star Conference home games for the first time since 2017 with a 66-53 divisional loss to the UT Permian Basin Falcons at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.
Zoey McBroom led the way for the Lady Buffs as the sophomore from Canyon went 4-of-14 from the field including 3-of-9 from behind the arc for a team-high 12 points to go along with two rebounds, one assist and a steal.
Karley Motschenbacher and
Kyla Kane both finished in double-figures with 10 points each.
The Lady Buffs finished the afternoon going 18-of-58 (31%) from the floor including 5-off-24 (20.8%) from deep and 12-of-16 (75%) from the free throw line to go along with 36 rebounds (nine offensive, 27 defensive), eight assists, 10 turnovers, one block and nine steals.
The Falcons were led offensively by Kamryn Lemon as the South Carolina native went 6-of-15 from the floor for a game-hih 13 points to go along with five boards and four assists. UTPB finished the game going 25-of-61 (41%) from the field including 7-of-25 (28%) from deep and 9-of-12 (75%) from the line to go along with 41 rebounds, 11 assists, 13 turnovers, one block and three steals.
The Lady Buffs hit the road for Lone Star Conference action next weekend as they travel to the Land of Enchantment for a pair of divisional matchups starting on Thursday night in Silver City against the Mustangs of Western New Mexico with tipoff set for 6:30 p.m. CT at Drag's Court.
