No. 1 Lady Buffs Stay Alive in Five at Colorado Premier

DENVER, Colo. – No. 1 West Texas A&M fought on opening day of the Colorado Premier Challenge as the No. 1 Lady Buffs took on their first and second five-set matches of the season against Lewis before coming back to defeat host of the Colorado Premier, No. 6 MSU Denver to win their pool. The Lady Buffs continue their winning streak to 32 matches.

MATCH 1 
#1 West Texas A&M 3, Lewis Flyers 2 (­25-20, 25-15, 19-25, 22-25, 15-10) 
 
By the Numbers
The Lady Buffs pulled out their first five-set match win of the season against the Lewis Flyers to start the Colorado Premier. The Lady Buffs were up 2 sets to none before the Flyers made their way back in taking the third and fourth set. There were eight lead changes and 24 ties within the match. The Lady Buffs started the fifth set strong by going up 8-4 and they closed out the match with two back-to-back kills by sophomore Emma Becker
 
Emma Becker led the match with 19 kills on 43 swings with four errors to hit .349 while senior Torrey Miller had 16 kills. Ainsley Malis had 34 assists followed by Blair Moreland with 19 to go along Taytum Stow's four blocks and Torrey Miller with 27 digs.

By the Numbers
After falling behind in the first set the Lady Buffs fought their way back to a 3-2 victory.  WT hit .243 in the afternoon with 60 kills on 144 attempts with 25 errors while totaling 61 digs, 50 assists, 22 blocks and three service aces.  The Roadrunners recorded 54 kills with 28 errors on 156 attempts to hit .167 to go along with 48 digs, 52 assists, 21 blocks and 10 service aces. 
 
Brynne Wright led the match with 15 kills on 32 swings with seven errors to hit .250 while sophomore Taytum Stow had 11 kills on 20 attempts with zero errors to hit a .550 clip. Ainsley Malis had 26 assists followed by Blair Moreland with 16 to go along with Carly Evetts six blocks and Bryli Contreras 17 digs. 
 
The Lady Buffs battled back in the fifth set after trailing the way up until 13-13. After a kill by Brynne Wright the Lady Buffs went up to 14 which forced a timeout by the Roadrunners. Emma Becker came out with a big kill to lead momentum at 15-14. A net error by the Roadrunners gave the Lady Buffs the win at 16-14.
