CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M couldn't come up with a clutch hit late in the game as they suffered an extra-inning walkoff loss for the second time in as many days against Lubbock Christian as the Chaps completed the Lone Star Conference Opening Weekend sweep in a pitcher's duel at Hays Field.
Â
The Chaps jumped out to an early lead in the home half of the second inning as Caden Hensley singled up the middle with two outs to score Jarred Gibson followed by a Carson Ogilvie RBI double to make it 2-0. The Buffs found a spark in the bottom of the fifth inning as senior
Mike Manetta made a diving stop on a grounder up the middle to end the frame with LCU leading 2-0.
Â
Manetta would lead off the sixth with a walk followed two batters later by a free pass to
Adam Becker,
Will Fuenning would put the Buffs on the board with an RBI single to left with two outs to make it 2-1. WT would tie up the game in the top of the seventh inning as Manetta lifted an RBI single to center eld with two outs to plate
Bryant Bailey to make it 2-2.
Â
LCU was in prime position to end the game in the bottom of the tenth inning as they loaded the bases with no outs before a grounder right in front of the plate for the first out followed by a great diving stop up the middle and a flip to second for a double play by
Kix Ferrel ended the threat.
Â
The Chaps would walk it off for the second straight game in the home half of the 12
th as Carson Ogilvie doubled to down the left field line to start the frame followed by a flyout to right as Ogilvie tagged up, the throw struck the runner as he slid into third base and got away just far enough for the junior to score the winning run and end WT's season.
Â
