Big Innings Lift UT Tyler Past the #25 Buffs in Game Three, 8-4

CANYON, Texas – The Patriots of UT Tyler scored seven runs in the middle of Sunday's Lone Star Conference victory over the #25 West Texas A&M Buffaloes at Irwin Field in Tyler, Texas.
 
Ryan Johnson put the Buffs on the board in the top of the third inning as a single to center scored Paul Wittmann for the 1-0 lead. The Patriots responded with four runs in the home half of the frame highlighted by a Lane Hutchison two-run double for the 4-1 lead.
 
Tyler added to their lead in the fourth as Jordan Gochenour singled to left to drive in a run followed by a wild pitch to score Nathan Carriere and a Nathan Ochoa RBI double to make it 7-1. The Buffs wouldn't go down without a fight as Johnson would drive in his second run of the game in the top of the fifth with an RBI single to score Bryant Bailey.
 
Adam Becker would connect on his 34th career homerun in the seventh to move into a tie for second on WT's all-time homerun list with Travis Denson (2000-03) with a two-run shot to left to cut the lead to 7-4. UTT would plate an insurance run in the bottom of the frame as Carriere would score on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 8-4.
 
Isaac Keehn picked up the loss (3-2) on the mound for the Buffs, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits with one walk and three strikeouts in his 3.2 innings of work.
 
The Buffs look to take one game from the Patriots on Monday afternoon as the series finale is set for 1:00 p.m. at Irwin Field.
