Bailey Leads the Buffs Past Cameron in the Series Opener, 14-3

CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M scored eight runs in the top of the third inning on their way to a 14-3 run-rule victory over the Cameron Aggies during the opening game of a Lone Star Conference series at McCord Field in Lawton, Oklahoma on Friday afternoon.

The Buffs got on the board in the top of the third inning as Will Fuenning tripled down the left field line to drive in Mike Manetta and Adam Becker followed by a Cameron error that plated Fuenning for the 3-0 lead, WT wasn't done yet as Bryant Bailey lifted a three-run homerun to left field followed by another CU error that plated Seth Ochoa and a Ryan Johnson RBI double for the 8-0 lead.

The Aggies would push across their first run of the afternoon in the bottom of the third as Trent Mallonee would score from third on a wild pitch with one out to make it 8-1. The Buffs responded in the top of the fourth as Kory Schmidt lifted a two-run long ball to left field for the 10-1 advantage.

Cameron would cut into the lead in the home half of the fifth as Spencer Simpson scored from third on a wild pitch to make it 10-2. WT answered again in the top of the sixth as Bailey lifted a sac fly to center with one out to plate Fuenning for his fourth RBI of the game followed later in the frame by a Manetta two-run single thru the left side for the 13-2 lead.

CU would use the long ball to cut into the lead in bottom of the frame with a Colby Flood solo homerun to left to make it 13-3. The Buffs would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch with no outs to plate Fuenning for the 14-3 lead.
