CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M trailed by just one entering the fourth quarter but a 19-3 run in the final period was enough for the Adams State Grizzlies to pick up a 77-64 victory in the season opener at the D2CCA Tipoff Classic at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock.

Grace Alvarez led the way for the Lady Buffs as the Houston product went 6-of-13 from the floor including 2-of-8 from deep and 1-of-1 from the charity stripe for a team-high 15 points to go along with four rebounds and four assists followed by
Kyla Kane and
Gloria Fornah with nine points each.

The Lady Buffs finished the game going 24-of-59 (40.7%) from the floor including 8-of-22 (36.4%) from behind the arc and 8-of-10 (80%) from the free throw line with 41 rebounds (12 offensive, 29 defensive), 16 assists, 22 turnovers, four blocks and three steals.

Riahana Davis led all players with 21 points as she went 7-of-9 from the floor and 5-of-7 from deep to go along with five rebounds, and a steal. The Grizzlies went 32-of-67 (47.8%) from the field including 6-of-18 (33.3%) from behind the arc and 7-of-9 (77.8%) from the free throw line to go along with 31 rebounds (six offensive, 25 defensive), 13 assists, seven turnovers, four blocks and 14 steals.

The Lady Buffs close out the D2CCA Tipoff Classic on Sunday afternoon as they take on the #12 Cougars of Azusa Pacific with tipoff set for 12 p.m. at the Rip Griffin Center.
