#15 Buffs Fall to #6 Angelo State, Face Elimination Game Tonight

CANYON, Texas – The #6 Rams of Angelo State ran their win streak to 19 games on Friday afternoon as they topped the #15 Buffaloes during winner's bracket at the 2022 Lone Star Conference Baseball Championship at Foster Field in San Angelo, Texas.

The Rams started off the scoring in the top of the third inning as Aaron Walters singled to center with two outs to score Adam Beck followed by a Justin Lee two-run homerun for the 3-0 lead. Adam Becker put the Buffs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as the junior from Midland crushed a solo shot to left center to make it 3-1.

The Rams did some more damage with two outs as Kamden Kelton bounced a ground-rule double into the ASU bullpen with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 5-1. ASU added to their lead in the sixth as Justin Harris started off the frame with a solo homerun down the left field line followed later in the frame by a Koby Kelton two-run blast to left center for the 8-1 advantage.

WT cut into the lead again in the bottom of the sixth as Becker connected on his second long ball of the game, this time a three-run shot to left center to make it 8-4. That's as close as the Buffs would get as the Rams plated six runs over the next three inning for the 14-5 lead headed into the home half of the ninth, Will Fuenning lifted a solo shot to left field but a strikeout would end the game, 14-5.

Jack Eagan picked up the loss (7-3) for the Buffs, allowing five earned runs on five hits with two walk and seven strikeouts in his 5.0 innings of work.

The Buffs and Hilltoppers were schedule for a Friday night elimination game but mother nature had other plans as multiple lightning delays forced the halting of the game set to resume at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the top of the first frame in a scoreless contest. SEU picked up a 19-3 victory over UT Tyler earlier in the day to eliminate the Patriots from the tournament.
