Errors Prove Costly as No. 20 Lady Buffs Fall to No. 22 Oklahoma Christian

, Texas – The No. 20 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M dropped two games in Sunday's Lone Star Conference doubleheader against No. 22 Oklahoma Christian.  WT dropped to 21-12 overall (10-10 LSC) while the Eagles improved to 28-8 (16-4 LSC).
 
THE BASICS
Game 32 Score: #22 Oklahoma Christian 8, #20 West Texas A&M 5
Pitching: (W) Lindsey Stoeckel (6-0); Heidi Vortherms (9-5)
 
After two scoreless innings, the Eagles posted three runs to the board led off by Brooklin Bain's solo homer into right to open scoring.  Oklahoma Christian added two to their lead with an RBI single through the 4-3 hole to lead 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third.
 
Brittni Rufus singled to the mound to bring Ruby Salzman to the plate where the Northridge, Calif. product sent deep and out her 45th career home run.  The junior's two-run bomb cut the Eagles lead to one until Julie Guzman launched her first homer of the season to give WT the lead.  
 
Gabriella Valforte hit into center before Diana Murtha was struck by a pitch to put runners on first and second with Guzman up to bat.  The sophomore drove a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall to give the Lady Buffs a 5-3 lead. 
 
The Eagles cut the lead to one with an RBI single into center before they capitalized on a trio of errors in the seventh to score four runs, taking game one 8-5. 
 
Salzman and Valforte each recorded a pair of hits at the plate to lead WT Julie Guzman recorded a season-high three RBI. 
 
Lindsey Stoeckel (6-0) was awarded the victory after stepping on the mound in the third inning.  The right-handed pitcher allowing just two hits through 4.2 innings with no runs and three strikeouts.  Heidi Vortherms (9-5) received the loss allowing three runs (one earned) through 5.2 innings with three walks and two strikeouts.

Oklahoma Christian attacked early as the Eagles used five hits to jump out to an 8-0 lead in the second. 
 
Nikki Warren led off the third for the Lady Buffs with a shot out into right before advancing to third on a throwing error from the infield.  Warren scored on a fielder's choice to end the shutout.  WT added its second run to the board when Brittni Rufus came across the plate on as single from Diana Murtha to make it 8-2.
 
The Eagles would score four runs in the seventh before holding WT, securing a 12-2 victory to take the series. 
 
Grace Anderson (10-2) received the victory allowing two runs (two earned) with eight hits , three walks and one strikeout.  Emilee Wilson (6-3) was credited the loss allowing five runs (five earned) on four hits through 1.1 innings. 
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Buffs return to Schaeffer Park to host Midwestern State on Friday, April 8, before they close their home schedule with a matchup against Texas Woman's on Sunday, April 10, for Senior Day.
