No. 11 West Texas A&M Falls in LSC Championship Finals

GLEN ROSE, Texas – The No. 11 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs recorded a runner-up finish at the Lone Star Conference Championships as No. 1 DBU won the Medal Match Play Finals, 5-0-0, to secure the Patriots second consecutive conference title.

WT matched up with top-seeded DBU in the finals after defeating third-seeded Texas A&M-Commerce in yesterday's semifinals medal match play.  Each match was scored by the cumulative number of strokes won by rather than the number of holes won.  For example, up 3 means that the player is up by 3 strokes, not 3 holes. The player up by the most strokes after 18 holes wins the match.

Frehsman Gam Songrpasert started things off for the Lady Buffs on the 1st Hole with a tie against DBU's Faith DeLaGarza.  DeLaGarza jumped five strokes ahead on the 6th Hole before Songprasert, a freshman from Chiang Mai, Thialand, birdied on the 12th and 13th hole to cut the lead to one but was unable to even the score for DBU to grab a one stroke lead.

Lorenza Perini and Julia Garcia were evenly matched going into the 4th Hole as each fired par. Garcia birded on the 4thand 5th to take the lead until she shot an eagle on the 7th Hole to grab a five stroke to lead.  The graduate student from Venice Italty cut the lead down to two strokes after she birdied on the Par 3 14th Hole and Par 4 15th hole but Garcia would finish four strokes ahead.

Junior Alyssa Campbell fell behind three strokes in the front nine before bringing the match to a two-stroke lead with a bridie on the Par 4 12th Hole.  Jaycie Stewart jumped six strokes ahead in after Campbell's double-bogey on the 14th and bogey on the 15th to secure the victory.

Rylie Cook birdied on the Par 5 5th Hole to cut Jordan Karrh's stroke lead to one before heading to the back nine tied at 37 (+1).  The two stayed matched heading to the final hole but Karrh shot an eagle on the Par 5 18th Hole to grab the fourth match win for DBU.

Antonella Periotti Omisolo battled Olivia Mitchell in the final match where the Argentina product fell behind two strokes on the front nine.  Mitchell, a sophomore from Plano, Texas fired 35 (-1) on the back nine secure the sweep for the Patirots.

The Lady Buffs will now wait for the announcement of the complete field selections for the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship on Monday, April 25, on NCAA.com.  The NCAA West Regional Championship is scheduled for May 2-4 in Stockton, Calif., at the Brookside Country Club.
