ODESSA, Texas – West Texas A&M suffered an upset sweep on Friday as UT Permian Basin grabbed a pair of Lone Star Conference victories over the No. 22 Lady Buffs. WT fell 4-1 and 4-3 to move to 25-14 on the season and 14-12 in conference play while the Falcons improve to 19-28 (6-20 LSC).
WT will continue their road journey on April 24 with a conference doubleheader against Western New Mexico in Silver City, N.M.

WT started off hot as
Brittni Rufus led off with a single to the infield before she stole second to move into scoring position. A grounder to the mound advanced Rufus 60-feet before the sophomore came across the plate with
Diana Murtha's single into right.
The lead was short-lived as the Falcons' Melayna Lopez hit a two-run single through the 3-4 hole to get the go-ahead 2-1 lead before scoring another run on a wild pitch. The Falcons added another run to the board in the sixth before shutting down the Lady Buffs 1-2-3 to secure the 4-1 upset.
UTPB outhit the WT 5-3 with two hits coming from Murtha who went 2-3 at the plate with the lone RBI.
Becky Berth (4-9) received the victory on the mound allowing just one earned run with two walks and one strikeout while
Heidi Vortherms (11-6) was credited the loss with four runs (one earned), two walks, and two strikeouts.

Ruby Salzman led off scoring for the Lady Buffs in the first as the junior hit a solo homer into right center to take a 1-0 lead. The Northridge, Calif. product sent out a 2-0 pitch to record her 47
th career home run before
Madison Johnson's single scored pinch runner
Halle Lytal to double the lead.
The Falcons immediately responded in the bottom of the inning as a run was walked in to cut the lead to one but
Megan Guericke hit through the 5-6 hole in the third to extend the lead back out to two.
UTPB chipped away at the lead in the fourth after taking advantage of a fielding error at first to bring the game within one until taking control in the seventh. Aracely Araiza hit an RBI triple into right center before coming across the plate on a single to second for the walk-off victory.
Abby Cousins (3-3) was rewarded the victory throwing the final six innings allowing one unearned run while
Kyra Lair picked up the loss. Lair moved to 2-3 after allowing two runs (two earned) on three hits through the final two innings.
