SAN ANTONIO, Texas – West Texas A&M received a pair of losses on Sunday afternoon as St. Mary's upset the No. 6 Lady Buffs 3-1 and 7-2. WT moves to 19-10 on the season and 8-8 in conference play while the Rattlers improve to 28-7 overall.
The Lady Buffs will return to Canyon next weekend when the Lady Buffs open their eight-game homestand with a doubleheader against Cameron on Friday, April 1, before they face No. 23 Oklahoma Christian on Sunday, April 3.

For just the sixth time this season an opponent opened scoring against the Lady Buffs as St. Mary's tagged a couple of runs to board in the first inning. The first five batters of the Rattlers lineup landed on base to take a 2-0 lead until
Heidi Vortherms recorded her second strikeout of the matchup to leave bases loaded, ending the threat.
After four scoreless innings, the Rattlers added another run to their lead as Abigaile Carney sent her seventh homer of the season deep and out. The run was quickly answered the the top of the seventh as
Diana Murtha snapped the shutout with her own homer.
The Summerlin, Nev. product sent out her 12
th home run of the season to cut the lead to two.
Julie Guzman found the green as the sophomore hit a single into left to keep momentum, but the two out rally was ended with popup in foul territory to secure the Rattler's upset.
Jadyn Abrego was credited the victory allowing just one earned run with a walk and strikeout through seven complete innings while
Heidi Vortherms received the loss with three earned runs on six hits with seven strikeouts, and one walk.

The Rattlers led off with a 2-0 lead in the first with a sacrifice fly to center and single into right but
Kyra Lair forced a grounder to third to end the run but an RBI single in the fourth pushed the lead out to three.
The Lady Buffs cut the lead to one in the fifth led off by
Megan Guericke's single into left. After reaching first on a fielder's choice,
Madison Johnson moved into scoring position on a hit into center from
Sydney Greeson to bring Guericke to the plate. The sophomore found the green landing the ball just out of range of defenders to score Johnson before
Braeland Booth laid down a sacrifice bunt to drive in pinch runner
Malaya Delfin from third.
St. Mary's immediately responded with a pair of runs as Jamison Holder hit two-run homer into left center before the Rattlers added three to the board to take hold of the game, pushing the score out to 7-2.
Catalina Cavazos (14-1) received the victory on the mound allowing two earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts through seven innings.
Kyra Lair moved to 2-2 on the season after earning the loss allowing six runs (six earned) on 11 hits with four strikeouts.
