LUBBOCK, Texas – Sophomore
Madison Johnson sent two homers out in No. 6 West Texas A&M's 10-1 run-rule victory over No. 15 Lubbock Christian before the Lady Chaps took game two, 8-6, to split the series.  The Lady Buffs move to 13-6 (2-4) overall while LCU improves to 19-3 (5-1 LSC).Â

WT will return to action on March 14 when they take on No. 18 Angelo State at Mayer Field in San Angelo. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on Monday.Â

Brittni Rufus led off with a single to third before advancing to third on a hit into the outfield by
Ruby Salzman. Â
Diana Murtha hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Rufus to give the Lady Buffs a 1-0 lead.  LCU leveled the field with Skylar Herrera's single down the left field line.Â

The Lady Buffs took control of the game in the sixth, scoring nine runs on seven hits led off with a solo shot by
Madison Johnson.  The Flowermound, Texas product launched a 2-1 pitch into right field to give the Lady Buffs the 2-1 lead before doubling their score with
Gabriella Valforte's two-run double.Â

Three more runs would cross the plate for WT before the Lady Chaps made a pitching change.  With two outs, Johnson and Rufus hit back-to-back home runs to give the Lady Buffs a 10-1 lead.

The Lady Buffs outhit LCU 9-4 lead by Rufus who went 3-for-4 at the plate while Johnson collected three RBI followed by Valforte and Guzman with two each.Â

Emma Parrish (1-1) was rewarded her first victory on the mound after completing the fifth inning while Taylor Franco (10-1) received her first loss of the season allowing eight runs (eight earned) on seven hits with three walks.Â

The Lady Chaps took an early 5-0 lead in the second thanks to Tyla Lee's grand slam.  WT chipped away at the lead as
Brittni Rufus tripled to score
Madison Johnson from first before coming across the plate on a wild pitch followed by a single from
Diana Murtha to make it 5-3. Â

WT evened the score in the fifth as Murtha scored on another wild pitch before taking advantage of a throwing error in the infield to take the lead, 6-5.  Lubbock Christian came back to tie the game at 6-all until scoring two runs with an RBI single and sac fly to right to take game two.Â

Maxine Valdez earned the victory allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits with five strikeouts through 4 2/3 innings. Â
Halle Lytal (1-1) was credited the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits through 2 1/3 innings.  Johnson, Murtha and Greeson each recorded a pair of hits to lead at the plate.Â
