CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes and sixth year head coach 
Hunter Hughes will play five home games inside of Buffalo Stadium this upcoming fall as the 2022 WT Football schedule was announced on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
The schedule features three NCAA Postseason teams from 2021 as well as a new-look Lone Star Conference. Central Washington, Western Oregon and Simon Fraser have been added as football affiliate members beginning in 2022 so the league is now at 10 football institutions after the departure of Texas A&M-Commerce.
 
WT will welcome Lone Star Conference opponents Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Permian Basin, Central Washington and Eastern New Mexico to Buffalo Stadium along with non-conference opponent Adams State. The Buffs will be on the road against Western Colorado, Angelo State, Midwestern State, Western Oregon, Western New Mexico and Simon Fraser.
 
The Buffs open the 2022 campaign on Saturday, September 3
rd in Gunnison, Colorado against Western Colorado. The Mountaineers went 10-2 last season with a trip to the NCAA Postseason before falling at home to Nebraska-Kearney (31-24) in the opening round.
 
Adams State makes their way to Canyon for WT's home opener and Hall of Champions Weekend on September 10
th. The Grizzlies finished the 2021 campaign with an overall mark of 1-10 under then first year head coach Jarrell Harrison. The Buffs begin Lone Star Conference play on September 17
th against Texas A&M-Kingsville in Canyon, the Javelinas went 5-55 last season including 3-4 in league action.
 
WT heads to San Angelo on September 24
th to take on Angelo State at LeGrand Stadium. Jeff Girsch guided the Rams to a mark of 11-3 and the third round of the NCAA Postseason last fall as they picked up wins over Minnesota-Duluth (48-14) and Nebraska-Kearney (20-7) before falling in the quarterfinal round to Colorado School of Mines (34-26).
 
The Buffs will welcome UT Permian Basin to Canyon on October 1
st for Homecoming, the Falcons finished last season 5-5 overall including 3-4 in LSC play. WT hits the road for back-to-back road contest at Midwestern State (Oct. 8) and Western Oregon (Oct. 15). The Mustangs finished 2021 with an overall record of 7-3 to just miss the postseason while the Wolves went 4-6 in their final season of GNAC competition.
 
Central Washington makes the 1,600 mile trip to Canyon on October 22
nd as the Wildcats fell to Northwest Missouri State (50-21) in the opening round of the NCAA Postseason to finish the campaign 8-3 overall. WT heads to Silver City, New Mexico to take on Western New Mexico on October 29
th, the Mustangs went 1-10 last season.
 
The Wagon Wheel Game will be played at Buffalo Stadium for the first time in 2022 as Eastern New Mexico comes to Canyon on November 5
th, the Greyhounds finished the 2021 campaign with an overall mark of 4-7. The Buffs close out the regular season on the road as they make the long trip to Burnaby, British Columbia for their first ever meeting with Simon Fraser (1-7 overall last season) on November 12
th.
