#3 Buffs Remain Unbeaten, Take Two from UT Permian Basin

CANYON, Texas – The #3 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M ran their win streak to a dozen on Sunday afternoon as they took the first two games of a Lone Star Conference weekend series from the UT Permian Basin Falcons at Momentum Bank Ballpark in Midland.

The Buffs and Falcons close out the series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. in Midland.

GAME ONE
The Buffs wasted little time jumping on the board as Midland native Adam Becker doubled off of the wall in left field with two outs to score Eddy Savoie all the way from first for the early 1-0 lead. UTPB tied it up in the home half of the second as they took advantage of a WT error with a Michael Clapperton RBI single thru the right side to score Christian Rodriguez and make it 1-1.

WT responded in the top of the third with a Kennedy Badgett RBI double down the right field line to plate Savoie followed by a Becker RBI single to center along with a Falcon error to score Badgett. The Buffs weren't done yet as Will Fuenning launched a two-run bomb to left field to make it 6-1.

Ryan Johnson would single to center in the top of the fourth to drive in Savoie followed later in the frame by a Fuenning RBI groundout to first base and an Eric Ortiz double to the wall in center field to score Badgett and run the lead to 9-1.

WT would add to their lead in fifth as Johnson doubled down the right field line to score Savoie and Paul Wittmann followed later in the frame by a Becker two-run homerun to left center to extend the lead to 13.1. The Falcons would cut into the lead in the home half of the frame with a Gabriel Morin sacrifice fly to Fuenning in right that plated Gabe Melendez to make it 13-2.

Nick Marshall picked up the win (4-0) on the mound for the Buffs, allowing one unearned run on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts in his four innings of work. Isaac Keehn tossed the final three innings for WT, allowing one earned run on two hits with no walks and five strikeouts in relief.

GAME TWO
The Buffs jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap as Becker and Fuenning drove in RBI with base hits followed later in the frame by a wild pitch to score Fuenning from third to give WT the 3-0 advantage. WT added to their lead in the top of the fourth as Wittmann singled to center field with two outs to plate Ortiz and extend the lead to 4-0.

WT wasn't done yet as Savoie singled to center field with two on and two outs in the sixth to plate Glenn Noronha to make it 5-0. The Buffs added an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Fuenning lifted a sacrifice fly to right center to score Johnson and give WT a 6-0 lead.

Jack Eagan picked up the win (3-0) for the Buffs, allowing no runs on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in his five scoreless innings of work. Brennan Berdon tossed three scoreless innings in relief with four strikeouts with Reese Miller throwing the ninth to complete the shutout.
