LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 4 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs outscored their opponents 17-2 on Saturday as they rolled past Colorado Christian and Colorado School of Mines at the Visit Lubbock Collegiate Classic hosted by Lubbock Christian.  The Lady Buffs improve to 5-2 as they collect their fourth consecutive win.Â

The Lady Buffs opened scoring for the fourth time this season as they grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first.   With one out,
Ruby Salzman smacked a double through the left side before before coming home on a grounder to the right side by
Megan Guericke. Â

Julie Guzman added to the board as the sophomore launched an RBI double into left field to score
Madison Johnson from second but was immediately responded by the CCU when the Cougar's Piper Lujan singled into left to score the run.Â

After three scoreless innings, the Lady Buffs doubled their lead as pinch hitter
Sydney Greeson doubled down the left field line to bring two runs across the plate.  Salzman drove a 1-0 pitch deep and over left field to lead off the seventh before
Maddie Geidel and
Cinthia Garcia each sent one out to make it 8-1.Â

Halle Lytal earned the start on the mound while
Heidi Vortherms (3-1) was credited the win with five strikeouts through five complete innings.  Alexis Hamilton (2-1) received the loss allowing seven runs (seven earned) with four strikeouts, one walk and one hit by pitch. Five Lady Buffs registered multiple hits against the Cougars led by Salzman with two runs and one RBI.Â

Ruby Salzman picked up right where she left off as the Northridge, Calif. product sent one into the street in centerfield to open scoring.  With a full count, Salzman crushed her 39
th career home run to give the Lady Buffs a 1-0 lead in the first.Â

WT took control of the game in third and never looked back as the Lady Buffs tagged five runs on to the board.  After
Julie Guzman was hit by a pitch, three consecutive singles by
Brittni Rufus, Salzman and
Megan Guericke made it a three-run game in favor of WT.  With runners on first and third,
Diana Murtha hit her third double of the season to make it 5-0 before coming around the bases on a single by
Madison Johnson.Â

The Lady Buffs added three more runs in the top of the fifth to lead 9-0 before the Orediggers' Grace Gonzalez ended the shutout with her first collegiate home run but a grounder to third secured the run-rule victory.Â

Emilee Wilson (2-1) was rewarded the victory on the mound allowing just two hits through four innings with
Josey Nichols making an appearance with one run (one earned).  Sadriena Rodriguez (0-2) was credited the loss allowing six earned runs on six hits.  Salzman led at the plate for WT going 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs.Â
