No. 9 Lady Buffs Sweep Patriots to Advance to Regional Semifinals

DENVER, Colo. – The No. 9 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M recorded their 21st consecutive victory on Thursday afternoon after defeating the No. 7 seed UT Tyler Patriots in straight sets in the NCAA South Central Regional Quarterfinals. 
 
WT will face the winner of No. 3 seed Regis and No. 6 seed Colorado School of Mines on Friday night in the semifinals at the Auraria Event Center in Denver on the campus of top seed MSU Denver at 5 p.m. MT. The Patriots season comes to an end in the quarterfinals with an overall record of 20-10.

The Numbers
WT .307 in the quarterfinals with 43 kills on 101 attempts with 12 errors to go along with 53 digs, 39 assists, nine blocks and three service aces while limiting the Patriots to hit just .050 with 31 kills on 120 swings and 25 errors.  UTT with 43 digs, 31 assists, two blocks and one aces. 
 
Taytum Stow and Kayla Elliott teamed up with 10 kills each to lead the offense. Stow posted a season-high .769 hitting percentage with 10 kills on 13 attempts and no errors to go along with a match-high five blocks while Elliott was responsible for a match-high 13 of the 55 points for WT. Blair Moreland guided the Lady Buffs with 17 assists while three players registerd double figure digs with Abi Nash (11), Bryli Contreras (11) and Torrey Miller (10). 
 
Mikayla Ware produced a match-high 12 kills on 47 attempts with 13 errors to hit -.021 to go with eight digs. Adeline Ortman had 24 assists for UTT while Addison Evans had the solo ace and a team-high 11 digs.  

The Milestones
  • The Lady Buffs are 53-25 overall during the NCAA Tournament that includes 14 regional tournament titles
  • Fourth year head coach Kendra Potts advances to her second regional semifinals, moving to 4-2 in the NCAA Tournament with an 86-10 career record for an incredible winning percentage of 89.6%
  • Thursday's match marks the second time WT knocked UT Tyler out of the NCAA tournament, WT's team effort defeated UTT 3-1 in the 2021 regional semifinals
