No. 11 Lady Buffs Defeat UT Tyler in Straight Sets, Advance to 18th LSC Championship Match

CANYON, Texas – Tournament host and No. 11 West Texas A&M looks to defend the tournament title as the Lady Buffs advanced to the program's 18th Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship match after sweeping the No. 4 seed UT Tyler on Friday night.  The Lady Buffs will face No. 2 seed DBU in the finals on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. CT inside "The Box."

The Numbers
WT hit .337 in the semifinals with 46 kills on 95 swings with 14 errors to go along with 32 digs, 44 assists, eight blocks and five service aces. The Lady Buffs held the Patriots to a .181 hitting percentage, one their lowest of the season, with 30 kills on 83 attempts with 14 errors, 25 digs, 29 assists, four blocks and two aces. 
 
Two Lady Buffs registered double figure kills with senior Abi Nash producing a match-high 12 on 21 attempts with four errors to hit .381 to go along with a team-high seven digs while Torrey Miller reached 11 kills. Blair Moreland registered her 16th career 20-assist match while matching a career- and match-high three aces. Freshman Taytum Stow had four blocks in the sweep followed by Kayla Elliott with three. 
 
Mikayla Ware, the LSC Player of the Year, was limited to nine kills on 27 swings with six errors while Hattie Murray had both aces for the Patriots. On defense, Savannah Guzman led the match with nine digs while Murray, Ware and Jeorgia Jones were each rewarded two blocks.

  • WT moves to 52-11 overall during the LSC Tournament for an incredible winning percentage of 82.5%, highest in league history
  • Fourth year head coach Kendra Potts advances to her second LSC Tournament final, moves to 7-2 overall during the LSC Tournament
