Eagles Stun Buffs on Wednesday Night

CANYON, Texas – A pair of free kick goals proved to be costly as the West Texas A&M men's soccer team fell to the Oklahoma Christian Eagles, 2-1. The Buffs suffered their first loss in Lone Star Conference play as their record moves to 5-3-8 overall, 3-1-4 in LSC play.

The Buffs looked to have opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game on a counterattack as Dylan Watson found Keaton Hartman in the box. After Hartman put his shot in the back of the net, the officials met and disallowed the goal as WT was offside on the attack. The Buffs' defense remained stout through the first half, holding Oklahoma Christian without a shot in the opening 45 minutes.

The Buffs started the second half by pushing up the field once again. WT found the opportunity it had been looking for in the first half when Giancarlo Saldana made his way through the Eagles' back line. Oklahoma Christian goalkeeper Daniel Hoser shut down Saldana making a pair of saves to keep the game tied at zero. The Buffs wouldn't be denied as Saldana led the WT charge up the sideline. Saldana sent a crossing pass into the box where a diving effort by Ben Siri put the ball in the back of the net. After a foul outside the box, the Eagles tied the game in the 68th minute on Elliott Forestier's free kick. Oklahoma Christian took the lead 10 minutes after its first goal on another free kick from the top of the box as Joep Claassen sent his shot into the goal.

WT finishes the regular season in Wichita Falls as the Buffs take on Midwestern State. First kick is scheduled for 3 p.m.
