Lady Buffs Play to 1-1 Draw on Senior Day

CANYON, Texas – In a game that came down to the closing seconds, the West Texas A&M women's soccer team resorted to a draw with the Oklahoma Christian Eagles. After the 1-1 draw, the Lady Buffs' record moves to 12-1-4 overall and 6-1-4 in the Lone Star Conference.

WT came off the opening kickoff firing as the Lady Buffs, registering three shots in the first seven minutes. Oklahoma Christian responded with a pair of shots on goal by Carson Hazel. Despite being held off the score board for the first 10 minutes, WT stayed on the offensive throughout the first half. After 45 minutes of play, the score remained tied, but the Lady Buffs held a 12-4 advantage in shots and 4-2 lead in shots on goal.

In the second half, WT turned up the intensity a notch from the opening kick. Within a 30 second span, three Lady Buffs took shots at the Oklahoma Christian goal. The pressure paid off for WT in the 52nd minute when Asha James jumped into an Eagles' passing lane for the steal outside the box. Left with a one-on-one opportunity, James chipped the ball over Oklahoma Christian goalkeeper Gabby Goddard. Following the goal, the Lady Buffs continued to press Goddard and the Eagles' back line. After a takeaway in the midfield, Oklahoma Christian's Kyla Lovelace broke through the WT defense. With only the goalkeeper to beat, Lovelace sent a shot over Reagan Heelan and into the net to tie the game. With less than a minute to play, Cruz placed a shot on goal Goddard couldn't corral. The ball rolled to James who sent three shots into the body of Goddard. On the Lady Buffs' fifth attempt, Maria-Frances Serrant sent a shot wide as the game ended.

WT ended with 29 shots, 12 coming on goal, while Oklahoma Christian attempted 10 shots, four on goal.

The Lady Buffs end the regular season with a road trip to Laredo where a matchup with Texas A&M International awaits. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
