Moreland Reaches 1,000 Assists, Lady Buffs Grab 20th Win of the Season

CANYON, Texas – Sophomore Blair Moreland became the 20th Lady Buff in program history to record 1,000 career assists as she helped pace West Texas A&M to its 13th consecutive victory against Eastern New Mexico on Saturday.

The Numbers
WT recorded 61 kills in the victory, the second most this season, with 20 errors on 154 attempts to hit .273 while registering 55 assists, 68 digs, 11 blocks and five service aces.   ENMU hit .079 with 36 kills on 140 attempts with 25 errors to go along with 35 assists, 57 digs, eight blocks and five service aces. 
 
Three Lady Buffs reached double figure kills led by freshman Emma Becker.  Becker posted a season- and match-high 17 kills on 30 swings with six errors to hit .367 followed by Kayla Elliott's season-high 14 and Torrey Miller with 12. Ainsley Malis led the offense with 25 assists to go along with 10 digs for the double-double while Blair Moreland followed closely behind with 22 assists.  Newcomer Bryli Contreras was a force in the back row, collecting a season-high 23 digs while Elliott had six total blocks to lead the with a match-high 18 points. 
 
Mikaela Garvin and Kali Nelson each recorded eight kills on Saturday combing for 18.5 points while Kayla Ison led with 18 assists. Getsemani Carrasco and Ryle Mapes combined for 21 digs while Garvin and Adriana Puni each had four blocks. 
 
The Milestones
  • WT continues to lead the all-time series 71-15 with a five-game win streak against the Greyhounds, including a 4-0 record under Kendra Potts
  • The Lady Buffs continue to lead the Lone Star Conference standings with a perfect 12-0 record
  • Sophomore Blair Moreland ranks 20th in the program's career leaderboard with 1,019 assists, surpassing former Lady Buff Erika Dupree (2008-11)
  • Torrey Miller's 12 kills keeps her eighth in the all-time leaderboard at 1,424 career kills
