PORTALES, N.M. – Coming off a draw, the West Texas A&M men's soccer team returned to the win column against Eastern New Mexico. With the 2-0 win, the Buffs improved their record 5-2-8 overall and 3-0-4 in the Lone Star Conference.
WT came out of the opening kickoff with momentum, registering a shot on goal in the opening minutes. The Buffs kept the offense rolling by outshooting Eastern New Mexico 8-2 in the first 25 minutes of play. Unfortunately for WT, the Buffs couldn't capitalize on the chances as the game went into halftime knotted at zero.
Despite being held off the scoreboard in the first half, WT went back to work in the opening minutes of the second half. Less than five minutes into the period,
Dylan Watson watched his shot go wide. As the clock ticked under 20 minutes to play,
Steven Hernandez placed a ball over the Greyhounds' back line to
Kenny Brown. Brown controlled the ball into the box where he beat a defender and the goalkeeper to give WT a 1-0 lead. The Buffs added another goal 10minutes later when Brown found
Ben Siri who sent a rocket into the back of the net. Eastern New Mexico responded by going down the field to test
Asaf Kristal, but the WT goalkeeper made the save to preserve the clean sheet.
The Buffs wrap up their home schedule as they host the Eagles of Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday for Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at The Pitch.
