Buffs Draw with Falcons on Wednesday Night

Buffs Draw with Falcons on Wednesday Night

ODESSA, Texas – After the West Texas A&M men's soccer team held a lead at halftime, the UT Permian Basin Falcons used a second half goal to force a draw with the Buffs. WT's record moves to 4-2-8 overall and 2-0-4 in the Lone Star Conference.

After a fast start to the contest, the Falcons tested WT goalkeeper Asaf Kristal, but Kristal made the save. The Buffs turned the save into a counterattack as Kenny Brown took space inside the 18-yard box. Brown's attack brought UTPB goalkeeper Kristian Hovind off his line. As Brown found a clean look at goal, a defender came sliding in to kick the ball off the goal line to keep the score tied. After the Buffs took control of the ball on their side of the field, Brown used the sideline to go the length of the field as he took on the Falcons' defense. As the senior approached the goal, Brown beat the defenders and placed a shot into the side netting to score the game's first goal. As the clock ticked under 10 minutes to go, Kristal made another crucial save to keep the Buffs in the lead.

Second half play started like that of the first half. UTPB found a scoring opportunity 10 minutes into the start of the half after a WT foul. On the ensuing free kick, the Buffs could breathe a sigh of relief after the shot went wide of the goal. With the pressure mounting, the Falcons forced a corner kick with 24 and a half minutes to play. On the in-swinging ball, Orsi Contreras headed the ball into the back of the net. WT looked to score a late goal and down UTPB as Chris Palomino found space inside the box and curled a ball around Hovind's hand, but the shot went just outside the post. As the physicality increased, the time on clock decreased. After final pushes by both teams, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Buffs stay on the road as they travel to play the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. Central time
