WT Remains Unbeaten in BritKare Lady Buff Classic Finale; Miller Named Tournament MVP

CANYON, TEXAS – West Texas A&M volleyball wrapped opening weekend on Saturday afternoon with victories over Southwestern Oklahoma State and UAFS to finish the BritKare Lady Buff Classic 4-0.  The Lady Buffs came from behind to defeat SWOSU 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-22) before battling back to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-7, 25-19, 25-23) victory over UAFS.

Torrey Miller was named the tournament MVP after leading the Lady Buffs offense with 61 kills on the weekend to average 4.07 per set. Camy Jones and Kayla Elliott join Miller as All-Tournament selections, combining for 86 kills.  Jones recorded a weekend-high eight services aces while Abi Nash and Blair Moreland each totaled six.

MATCH 1
West Texas A&M 3, Southwestern Oklahoma State 1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-22)

The Lady Buffs came from behind using a 4-0 run to level the score at 10 all in the first half before SWOSU 23-20 lead.  Lauren Marler and Ashlyn Vinyard would deny Lacy Motts attack to even the score but the Bull dogs recorded back-to-back kills to earn the first set victory.

WT fired back to win 3-1 as the Lady Buffs came from behind to win the next three sets.  Miller led the match with a double-double tallying 19 kills and 13 digs.  Outside hitter Jones had a career-high 16 kills on 30 swings while Blair Moreland and Sadie Snay each registered 20 assists.

MATCH 2
West Texas A&M 3, UAFS 1 (22-25, 25-7, 25-19, 25-23)

After falling behind in the first set, the Lady Buffs would strike fiercely as WT's defense held UAFS to hit .078 for just seven points marking WT's largest set-win margin since Sept. 10, 2016 against Lock Haven.  WT led the match 2-1 before the Lady Lions used a 7-1 run to bring the set within one.  UAFS held on after capitalizing on an attack error but a kill by Elliott would leave the Lady Buffs with a perfect 4-0 opening-season record.

Three Lady Buffs had double digit kills with Miller tallying 16 followed by Jones and Elliott with 14 and 10 while Snay had 33 assists.  Vogel racked up 29 of WT's 83 digs for WT to move up to third in the all-time records list with 2,160 career digs.
