KEARNEY, Neb. – West Texas A&M volleyball moved to 6-0 on the season after defeating Chadron State and Southern Nazarene in opening play of the Rosella Meier UNK Fall Classic on Friday. The Lady Buffs conclude the preseason play on Saturday with a matchup against nationally-ranked third Nebraska-Kearney at 4 p.m.
MATCH 1
West Texas A&M 3, Chadron State 0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-11)
The Lady Buffs set the tone in first set using a 7-0 run to take a 17-5 lead before Chadron State compiled its own successful run to bring the set within one. WT shutdown the Eagles run using back-to-back kills by
Samantha Jordan to take the first set.
As a team, WT hit .284 with 13 players adding to the board led by
Torrey Miller at 9.5 points including eight kills and one block.
Kayla Elliott (8.0),
Katrina Johnson (7.5) and
Kinley Rudder (7.0) followed with six kills each while
Sadie Snay led the offense with 18 assists.
The Lady Buffs defense limited Chadron State to -.038 hit percentage as WT recorded 16 blocks with
Chandler Vogel compiling 15 digs.
MATCH 2
West Texas A&M 3. Southern Nazarene 0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-16)
WT kept the momentum in the second match of the day as they took control early with a 25-11 opening set victory over the Crimson Storm. After the Lady Buffs took a 2-0 lead in the match, SNU would string together a successful run to bring the third set score within one but WT would end the threat using a 10-2 run to take a 3-0 victory.
Torrey Miller and
Samantha Jordan each registered double-digit kills with Miller recording 12 and Jordan at 11.
Sadie Snay totaled 25 assists in the match. Freshman
Marjani Stanfill had a team-high four blocks while
Chandler Vogel tallied 16 digs to bring her career total to 2,221.
