#6 West Texas A&M Downs Northwest Nazarene at The Pitch

CANYON, Texas – In their first meeting, No. 6 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M earned a 2-1 victory over Northwest Nazarene on Saturday afternoon at The Pitch.  The Buffs are now 4-0-0 while the Nighthawks fell to 3-3-0. 
 
The Buffs had a 26-13 shot advantage with 13 landing on frame to NNU's two.  WT opened scoring in the 21st-minute as LSC Offensive Player of the Week Giancarlo Saldana netted a shot in the box, completing a pass from Ben Siri to lead at the half. 
 
Beau Johnson came out firing a shot just seconds into the second half but missed over the woodwork to keep the score at 1-0.  The Buffs landed five more shots on target including a shot by defender Marshall Ball from midfield but was cleared with a save by NNU's sophomore keeper Sawyer Price.  
 
In the 74th-minute, Keaton Hartman tapped the ball over to Saldana who buried the pass in the back of the net to double the Buffs score for his sixth goal of the season. 
 
The Nighthawks brought the match within one with a header by Sullivan Smith but the Buffs held on to secure their third home victory. 
 
Eight Buffs registered shots against the Nighthawks led by Dennis Herrera with a career-high eight shots followed by Saldana with seven.  Tom Miles was awarded his third collegiate victory as WT's goalkeeper, recording one save.
