DENVER, Colo. – West Texas A&M softball saw the effects of 25 hours of weather delays after falling in a 5-0 shutout against No. 24 Biola for the Eagles to take game one of the championship series.
Biola opened scoring in the bottom frame of the first inning after a ground ball to the right side scored the runner from second. After the completion of the first inning, players were removed from the field after an additional rain delay was imposed, forcing play to continue Monday afternoon.
After the 16-hour delay, game one of the championship series resumed with the Eagles registering a run in the second with a sacrifice fly to right field before taking advantage of a throwing error to make it 4-0.
The Lady Buffs best chance to jump on the board came in the fifth with back-to-back singles by
Hailey Neira and
Shanna McBroom but BU was able to retire the batter to end the threat.
The Eagles outhit WT 9-4 as four different Lady Buffs tallied hits.
Kyra Lair was credited the loss allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits through two innings.
Emilee Wilson and
Halle Lytal each recorded time on the mound throwing two innings each.
