Danzeisen’s Complete Game Clinches the LSC Regular Season Championship

AUSTIN, Texas – West Texas A&M senior left-hander Todd Danzeisen tossed a complete game as the #4 Buffaloes clinched the program's third Lone Star Conference Regular Season Championship on Monday afternoon at Lucian-Hamiton Field in Austin, Texas with a 14-1 run-rule victory over St. Edward's. 
 
The Buffs jumped out to an early lead as Keone Givens doubled off of the wall in left field with no outs to score Cade Engle followed two batters later by a walk to Ryan Johnson to load the bases, Will Fuenning would add to the lead with a deep sac fly to the warning track in left for the 2-0 lead.
 
WT added to their lead in the top of the third inning as Johnson drove a two-run double to the gap in right center to score Givens and Jonah Gonzales followed on the next pitch by a Fuenning two-run bomb to left center to extend the WT lead to 6-0.
 
The Buffs would load the bases with one out in the fifth to bring the top of the order to the plate as Engle lifted a grand slam to deep left field for the 10-0 lead. The Hilltoppers used the long ball to cut into the lead in the home half of the fifth as Davis Drewek connected on a leadoff solo homerun to make it 10-1.
 
WT responded in the top of the sixth as Fuenning singled to left field with no outs to score Johnson from second base followed later in the frame by a Kyle Moos RBI single thru the left side to run the lead to 12-1. The Buffs added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a failed pickoff attempt with two outs followed by a wild pitch to score Kennedy Badgett at 14-1.
 
Danzeisen picked up the win (7-0) on the mound for the Buffs as the Las Vegas product allowed just one earned run on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts in the complete game victory.
 
WT finished off the regular season with series wins in all 11 league matchups as they claim their third Regular Season Title (2015, 2018, 2021) along with hosting duties for atleast the opening weekend of the LSC Championship on May 14-15. Seeding information for the opening weekend of the LSC Tournament will be announced on Sunday following the conclusion of makeup action across the league.
