Saldana Scores 8th of the Season, No. 6 West Texas A&M Fall in OT

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Giancarlo Saldana scored his team leading eighth goal of the season on Tuesday night but it wasn't enough as No. 6 West Texas A&M fell in overtime, 2-1, to Midwestern State at Stang Park in Wichita Falls.

Bryan Martinez provided the offense for the Buffs in the opening minutes of the game as the Houston native forced a save in the 2nd minute before hitting the top of the woodwork in the 14th minute.

Midwestern State would take the lead in the 34th minute on a goal from Yogi Vargas, less than four minutes after he came on as a substitute.

WT would find an equalizer in the opening 10 minutes of the second half when Martinez's shot was blocked by an arm of Mustang defender in the penalty area. Saldana calmly stepped up to the penalty spot and beat the keeper to make it 1-all in the 54th minute.

MSU would go down to 10 men seven minutes later when Adam Conway picked up his second yellow card. WT was unable to take advantage of the man advantage for the remaining 29 minutes of regulation as they only registered two shots.

WT would go home empty handed as MSU's Carlos Flores timed his run perfectly into the penalty area to latch onto Trevor Amann's pass for the golden goal in the 97th minute.

Martinez had six of the Buffs 11 shots on the night with Alexander Vencel making four saves in goal.

The Buffs were named the LSC Regular Season Champions and will host the conference championship at The Pitch. Their semifinal matchup against UT Tyler on Saturday, April 10, is scheduled to kickoff at 5 p.m.
