CANYON, Texas -Â Freshman
Madison Johnson drove in six runs as No. 12 West Texas A&M extended their win streak to six games with a doubleheader sweep over UT Permian Basin on Friday evening at Schaeffer Park in Canyon. The Lady Buffs won both games 9-1 in six innings to improve to 28-10 overall and 16-10 in Lone Star Conference play.

THE BASICS
Game 1 Score: West Texas A&M 9, UT Permian Basin 1 (6 innings)

The Lady Buffs were up 1-0 after the first inning as
Ruby Salzman came around to score on a throwing error from the catcher after stealing third.Â
Â
UTPB would get two runners on in the top of third but
Kyra Lair got out of the jam with her fifth strikeout of the game. WT would add to their lead in the bottom half of the inning with two runs on three hits.
Shanna McBroom reached base with a leadoff single to center fieeld. The senior would steal second and third before coming around score on
Erica Vessels' sac fly to right field.
Alyx Cordell would double to right field and later score on Johnson single.Â

Following a run from the Falcons in the top of the fourth, the Lady Buffs would add two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. McBroom's two-out single through the left side scored
Maddie Geidel, who had led the inning off with a double to right field. Salzman's first of two doubles would push McBroom across home plate and make it 5-1 in favor of WT.Â

Johnson would hit her fourth home of the season in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run shot over the black monster in left field. That was followed up with a solo home run from Geidel two batters later making it 8-1. Salzman would score the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on a bunt from Cordell after a leadoff double to centerfield.Â

Lair went 4 innings allowing one run on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
Emilee Wilson and
Halle Lytal combined for two innings out of the bullpen not allowing a hit with three strikeouts.Â

WT had their chance to opening the scoring in the first inning after loading the bases but UTPB's Sierra Camacho got
Sydney Greeson to ground out to second.Â

Johnson would put WT up 3-0 in the bottom of the third with a three-run opposite field home run. Salzman doubled for the third time in the doubleheader followed by a one-out walk by
Alyx Cordell. Johnson got just enough of the 2-1 offering for her fifth home run of the season. It was a 5-0 game the following inning as the Lady Buffs took advantage of four Falcon errors to score twice.Â

Two more errors from UTPB in the bottom of the fifth would see the home sides lead grow to 7-0after Geidel and Greeson scored. Alice Marion would score the Falcons lone run of the game in the top of the sixth after a one-out triple where the throw bounced off her helmet allowing her to stand up and score.Â

WT would end the game in the bottom half of the inning on
Kallieah Richerson-Cook's two-out infield single that scored two Lady Buffs.Â

Wilson picked up her ninth of the season after allowing four hits with three strikeouts in five innings of work.
Josey Nichols allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts in here one inning of work.
