DENTON, Texas - No. 12 West Texas A&M scored a combined 20 runs in their doubleheader sweep over Texas Woman's on Sunday afternoon in Denton. Four players drove in two runs in their 11-1 victory in game one with Eric Vessels homering and driving in three runs in game two, 9-2, as WT improved to 26-10 overall and 14-10 in Lone Star Conference play.
THE BASICS
Game 1 Score: West Texas A&M 11, Texas Woman's 1
The Lady Buffs jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first inning.
Shanna McBroom was hit on the second pitch of the game followed by a four pitch walk to
Ruby Salzman. Vessels' bunt single loaded the bases with no outs with Cordell driving in a run for the seventh straight game with a walk.
Gabriella Valforte was up next and singled to right center to scored two more runs. Following the first out of the inning,
Sydney Greeson drove in another run on a fielder's choice to the shortstop.
WT would add to their lead in the top of the second on two-out double from Cordell to left center plate Salzman for the second time in as many innings. The visitors were unable to add to their lead over the next two innings as the Pioneers got a run back in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out single from Alexys Ginegaw.
Kyra Lair was able to get herself out of trouble in the bottom of the fifth with a pop fly and strikeout after allowing TWU get runners on first and second with one out. The Pioneers got two runners on the following inning but
Kyra Lair struck out Karlee Wickersham and Leah Deaver to bring her total to six.
A six-run seventh would put the Lady Buffs in double digits for the first time since March 26. The first three batters reached base before
Maddie Geidel singled to left to plate Valforte and Cordell. Greeson was up next and cleared the bases with a double to left field.
Hailey Neira and Vessels would also drive in runs.
Lair improved to 17-5 with her second straight complete game allowing one run on eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Game 2 Score: West Texas A&M 9, Texas Woman's 2
The Lady Buffs scored in the first inning for the third consecutive game with Vessels and
Julie Guzman driving in runs. McBroom walked and stole second before coming around to score on an error from TWU on Vessels grounder to second. The bases would be loaded with two outs when Julia Guzman stepped to the plate as the redshirt freshman was hit by a pitch to make it 2-0.
The Pioneers would tie the game 2-all in the bottom half of the inning with Paige Tamayo and Jalee McDonald driving in runs. WT retook the lead in the top of the third inning on Vessels' sixth home run of the season. The senior would make it 4-2 in favor of the visitors two innings later with a single up the middle to plate Salzman, who lead the inning off with a triple.
They continued to add to their lead in the top of the sixth with four more runs to make it 8-2. After back-to-back singles from Neira and McBroom, Salzman's bunt forced a throwing error to plate both players. Salzman would advance to third on stolen bases before snagging home base as Vessels was caught stealing. Valforte would hit her team leading 10
thhome run of the season late in the inning. Neira would finish the scoring for the Lady Buffs with a one out RBI single in the top of the eighth.
Lair picked up her 18
th win of the season after going 5 innings allowing two runs on four hits and four strikeouts.
Halle Lytal went 2.0 inning of the bullpen allowing three hits and recording one strikeout.
