Lady Buffs Fall to Texas Tech in First Meeting Since 2002

LUBBOCK, Texas – In their first regular seasons meeting since 2002, West Texas A&M dropped a 5-0 decision to Texas Tech on Tuesday evening at John Walker Soccer Complex in Lubbock. The Lady Buffs finish the regular season at 4-3-0 overall and 4-1-0 in Lone Star Conference play.

The Lady Buffs had the first opportunity of the game in the first minute but Ashley Silvestre's shot was blocked. Tech would take the lead in the ninth minute when Kirsten Davis found Brittany Martin at the far post.

Tech doubled the advantage in the 26th minute as Briley Weatherford scored off a set piece on an assist from Gissele Kozarski.

Reagan Matacale would have the Lady Buffs best chance of the first half two minutes later when she forced an acrobatic save from Tech's Madison Martin. The freshman found just enough space to laser the ball just under the crossbar but Martin was up to the task and tipped the ball over the crossbar for a corner kick.

Hannah Kelley-Lusk finally found some space behind the Tech defense in the final minute of the first half but her shot outside the penalty area was blocked.

Tech's Macy Schutlz would score the first of her two second half goals in the 59th minute on an assist from Hannah Anderson.

Kelley-Lusk got a one-on-one with Tech's Martin in the 61st minute but sent her right-footed shot wide of the post. Davis would add a goal to her assist in the 75th minute with Schultz scoring in the final minute.

Kelley-Lusk finished with a game-high five shots with Sivlestre and Matacale also registering shots. Reagan Heelan made two saves before being substituted in the 86th minute for Daniela Estrada

The Lady Buffs turn their attention to the Lone Star Conference Championship that is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 3.
