No. 22 Buffs Upset No. 6 Midwestern State in 3-2 Thriller on Senior Day

CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's soccer team handed the No. 6 Midwestern State Mustangs their first conference loss as the No. 22 Buffs won 3-2 on Senior Day.  The Buffs are the only team to defeat the Mustangs this season as WT finished the regular season 13-3-0 and 6-2-0 in conference play while MSU finished 15-2-0 (7-1-0 LSC).

The Buffs and Mustangs were nearly evenly matched as MSU had a 15-14 shot advantage with each team landing six shots on frame.

The Buffs fell behind in the first half as the Mustangs' Trevor Amann led off scoring in the 25th-minute after connecting with a pass from Julian Barajas to take a 1-0.

In the 47th-minute, WT leveled the score with Rotem Weiss' fifth goal of the season.  The freshman completed a no-look pass from Chris Palomino in the penalty area to make it 1-all.  The Mazkeret Batya, Isreal product has now registered three goals in the last three matches.

Palomino added his own score the board as he doubled the Buffs lead in the 72nd-minute with his fifth score of the season after getting on the end of a ball from Ben Siri.  The lead was short-lived as the Mustangs evened the match with less than 12 minutes left of regulation.

WT continued to put pressure on the Mustangs' defense with a shot by senior Marshall Ball until the ball finally connected with the back of the net in favor of the Buffs with the deciding goal.  After Callum Doyle's header bounced off the woodwork the ball landed in front of Siri who buried his first career goal for the Maroon and White.

Tom Miles registered every minute at the post for the Buffs as the freshman keeper made four stops at the net to finish the regular-season 12-1-0.

Following Saturday's victory, the Buffs will enter the LSC Tournament as the No. 2 seed, receiving an automatic spot in the semifinals.  WT will defend its tournament title as the Buffs face the winner of the quarterfinal match between No. 3 Lubbock Christian and No. 6 UT Permian Basin on Nov. 12 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
